# How to search for contacts within a radius of a city

> Find every candidate within commuting distance: search all cities within a radius of a chosen city, in kilometers or miles, instead of listing towns one by one.

To search for contacts within a radius of a city, open the **Location** filter in Contacts, choose a city, and set a radius in kilometers or miles.

## What this gets you

* Candidates who live in nearby towns, suburbs, and villages, not only in the city itself.
* One filter instead of a long list of place names.
* Locations are normalized, so you can also filter by country, region, or postal code.

## Steps

1. Open [Contacts](https://docs.jobin.cloud/contacts.md) and the filter sidebar.
2. Open the **Location** filter.
3. Choose **Search all cities within a radius of a chosen city**.
4. Enter the city, then set the radius and choose kilometers or miles.
5. Save the location to apply the filter.

## Tips

* To filter by an area instead, choose **Search by country, region, city, or postal code**.
* Combine the radius with career filters, such as role title and seniority, for a focused shortlist.

## Ideas to get more from it

* Save the search for each office location, and reuse it whenever a local role opens.
* Use a wider radius for senior roles, where candidates travel further.
