# How to save a search and build a talent pool

> Create talent pools that keep themselves up to date: save a search and it adds and drops contacts as they match, with no tags to maintain.

To save a search and build a talent pool, set your filters in **Contacts**, choose **Save this search**, and name it. A saved search is a live filter, so it always shows who matches today.

## What this gets you

* You get a talent pool that keeps itself up to date. Contacts join when they match and drop out when they no longer do.
* You don't maintain tags by hand, which are rigid and go stale.
* Your best segments are one click away, pinned under the toolbar.

## Steps

1. Open **Contacts** and set your filters.
2. Choose **Save this search** and give it a name. If the name exists, Jobin asks before it overwrites it.
3. Pin the search so it sits one click away under the toolbar in **Pinned searches**.
4. Open the saved-searches list whenever you want to use it. Search the list by name.
5. Refresh the data with **Update profiles** when freshness matters, so the results stay current.

## Tips

* **Pro tip:** use a saved search or a job's ideal candidate profile for talent pools, instead of tags. Tags are rigid, while a saved search adds contacts when they start to match and drops them when they no longer do.

## Ideas to get more from it

* Create a saved search for each kind of role you hire for, such as a role family or seniority.
* Refresh the contacts with [Update profiles](/how-to/automatically-update-candidate-profiles.md) before a campaign, so the pool reflects current data.
* Use a job's [ideal candidate profile](/how-to/define-an-ideal-candidate-profile.md) as a talent pool for that role.
