# How to import companies from a CSV file

> Load your whole client and prospect list into Accounts at once, instead of adding companies one by one.

To import companies from a CSV file, open **Accounts**, use the arrow next to **Add account**, and choose **.CSV import**. Then map your columns and import.

## What this gets you

* Your client and prospect companies become searchable accounts in one import.
* You can start linking contacts and jobs to them right away.

## Steps

1. Open **Accounts** in the sidebar.
2. Use the arrow next to **Add account** and choose **.CSV import**.
3. Drop your CSV file.
4. Map a column to **Account name**. This is required to continue. Choose **Don't import** for columns you want to skip.
5. Review the overview and start the import.
6. Choose whether to auto-update the imported accounts with fresh data.

## Ideas to get more from it

* Import a target account list, then link the contacts you work with and create a job for each client.
* Let auto-update refresh the imported accounts, so company data is current.
