# How to find contacts you have not messaged yet

> Target only people who haven't heard from you yet, and avoid repeat outreach, by filtering for no recorded outreach or a recent last message.

To find contacts you have not messaged yet, use the outreach filter in **Contacts** to show contacts with no recorded outreach, or exclude anyone with a recent last message.

## What this gets you

* Your campaigns reach only fresh contacts.
* You avoid repeat messages that annoy candidates and waste your sending limits.
* You can build the list in a few filter clicks.

## Steps

1. Open **Contacts** and open the filters.
2. Use the previous-outreach filter and choose to find contacts with **no recorded outreach**. It has three states: with, without, or **Any**.
3. Or use the **Last message** filter: set a date range, choose **Any message**, and set the mode to **Exclude**.
4. For a specific job, filter its pipeline to the **Assigned** stage, or switch the pipeline filter to **Not in this pipeline**.

## Ideas to get more from it

* Start every campaign by filtering to contacts with no recorded outreach.
* Also exclude anyone messaged in the last few weeks, whatever the job.
* Save the filter combination, so it becomes your standard outreach list.
