# How to change the default Contacts view (list or cards)

> Open Contacts the way you work: choose list or cards as your default, and decide when the details sidebar opens.

To change the default Contacts view, open **Settings** > **Appearance** > **Default views** and choose list or cards for Contacts. Your choice is saved to your account.

## What this gets you

* Contacts opens the way you like to work every time.
* Your choice follows you across browsers, because it's saved to your account.

## Steps

1. Open **Settings** from the account menu.
2. Under **Appearance** > **Default views**, set **Contacts** to list or cards.
3. Under **Details sidebar**, choose whether a record's details open as soon as you select it, or only when you use the expand button.

## Tips

* The same options exist for accounts and jobs. The preferences follow you across browsers.

## Ideas to get more from it

* Choose cards for browsing and discovery, and list for bulk work.
* Choose to open details on select if you review many profiles, or on the expand button if you want more room.
