# How to add a condition to a sequence

> Make a sequence adapt to each contact: split it into paths by email, phone, connection, or tag, so everyone gets the right next step.

To add a condition to a sequence, add a **Condition** step, set each requirement to **Must have** or **Exclude**, and add the actions you want on the **True** and **False** paths.

## What this gets you

* Each contact follows the path that fits them, automatically.
* You can exclude people, such as a do-not-contact tag, without handling it by hand.
* You can choose a channel based on what you know about the contact.

## Steps

1. In the sequence editor, add a **Condition** step where you want the sequence to branch.
2. For each requirement you care about, choose **Must have** or **Exclude**. Leave the rest unset. Requirements cover contact info (email, mobile, landline, website), social connection degree, profile links and status, and tags.
3. For email, choose the address type: **Auto**, **Private**, **Work**, or **Any**.
4. Use **Must have tags** to require every selected tag, and **Exclude tags** to send contacts with any selected tag down the False path.
5. Add the steps for contacts who pass on the **True** path, and for everyone else on the **False** path.
6. Save.

## Tips

* True means every Must have is met and no Exclude matches. You can edit a condition at any time. Changes only reach contacts who haven't been queued yet.

## Ideas to get more from it

* Must have an email: send an email on True, and a social message on False.
* Must be a 1st connection: send a direct message on True, and an invitation on False.
* Exclude a do-not-contact tag and put your outreach on the True path.
