# AI Search

> Describe the role you're hiring for and get ranked, explainable candidate matches you can shortlist and contact.

AI Search turns a plain description of a role into a ranked list of candidates. You don't need to write Boolean strings or
tune filters by hand. Describe who you need, review the matches, shortlist the best, and start outreach from the same place.

Open it from **AI search** in the sidebar. For a guided first run, see [Find candidates with AI](/first-ai-search.md).

## Recommended workflow

1. **Describe the role.** Open **AI search** and describe the role and background, or choose **From Job Description** and paste a job description you already have.
2. **Check the criteria.** Review the must-have, nice-to-have, and exclusion criteria Jobin built. A must-have that is too strict removes good candidates, so keep only what is truly essential.
3. **Set your CRM filters.** Focus on candidates **not yet in the CRM**, and exclude people who were already contacted, are in a sequence, or have unsubscribed.
4. **Decide on language and location.** Keep **Accept language or location** on if either could stand in for the other.
5. **Work through To review.** Shortlist strong matches and mark the rest **Not a fit**. Open the evidence for borderline candidates before deciding.
6. **Refresh the order** when **Refresh Order** appears, so you're working from the latest scores.
7. **Screen if you need more detail.** Run [AI screening](/ai-screening.md) on the shortlist with criteria specific to the job.
8. **Reach out.** Select your shortlist, choose **Outreach**, and use a saved [sequence](/sequences.md) (or **New message**). Link the sequence to the job so replies are tracked.

## Start a search

Describe the role and background you need, or choose **From Job Description** to use a job description you already have.
Jobin reads the description or keywords and builds the search for you. Your requirements become:

* **Must-have** criteria a candidate should meet.
* **Nice-to-have** criteria that raise a candidate's ranking.
* **Exclusions** that rule candidates out.

You can watch these criteria take shape while AI Search prepares your results.

## Understand why a candidate matches

Each candidate has a fit score and a match verdict, so you can compare them at a glance.

* **Coverage.** See must-have and nice-to-have coverage separately.
* **Evidence.** Inspect the evidence behind each requirement to see what a profile satisfies and where the gaps are.
* **Clear sources.** Jobin distinguishes deterministic matching, such as a filter, from AI-evaluated fit.

Searches you ran before this scoring was introduced keep their original matching behavior.

### Accept language or location

Turn on **Accept language or location** in the AI Search filters when a required language and a required location can stand in
for each other. Either one can then satisfy the combined requirement. Jobin marks matches that were inferred from location, so you
know the candidate's language ability is still unverified. Turn the option off for the stricter behavior. New searches start
with the option on, and older saved searches keep the setting they had.

## Review and shortlist

AI Search has a built-in review workflow:

* **To review** shows candidates still waiting for your decision.
* **Shortlisted** holds the candidates you want to pursue.
* **Not a fit** keeps rejected profiles in a separate view.

Live counts show how many candidates are to review, shortlisted, and in total. When you reopen a search, it takes you back to the
candidates still awaiting a decision, and shows a completion state once you've reviewed every available candidate.

When newer AI scores are available, a **Refresh Order** action appears. Your current ranking stays stable until you choose it, then
results reorder using the latest scores and return to the first page.

## Use your CRM context

AI Search knows what's already in your recruitment CRM, so you can avoid wasted outreach.

* See whether a candidate is already in your CRM or is an applicant.
* Filter by CRM membership, or focus only on candidates **not yet in the CRM**.
* Exclude candidates who have already been contacted, who are in an outreach sequence, or who have unsubscribed.
* Include or exclude candidates by contact tag, and use job pipeline membership as a filter.

## Take action

* **Start outreach.** Select your shortlist and choose **Outreach** to use a saved sequence or write a new message.
You can also start a sequence with a delayed or scheduled start. See [Sequences](/sequences.md).
* **Screen further.** Run [AI screening](/ai-screening.md) on shortlisted candidates with your own criteria.
